From the desk of Selena Reece, Director of Educational Resources for Carolina Speech Pathology

Who are we, and how did we get here?

Our education department has evolved in many ways over the years, so we wanted to take a moment to share where we came from and how we got where we are today.

Carolina Speech Pathology was founded by Stuart Bradley in 1996 as one of the first onsite dysphagia imaging services. Since then, the footprint has expanded into 16 states, and our service has expanded to include continuing education.

The continuing education department started with FEES Training Courses and has since grown to include Live Webinars, Self-Study Courses, onsite FEES mentorship, and our latest addition – virtual FEES mentorship for SLPs who are comfortable with scope passes, but would like a second set of trained eyes to review a tricky exam. Virtual mentorship is also available to support those who are troubleshooting how to start a FEES program at their facility.

FEES Training Courses sparked the creation of the entire education department, and we continue to offer the best darn FEES training you can find! The department and course offerings have grown organically so that we can support SLPs to provide the highest quality dysphagia care.

Meet our team!

The Director of Educational Resources is me, Selena Reece! I started my career in 2003 in the acute care setting and found that I really loved diagnostics, especially FEES. Fortunately, I had wonderful mentors who helped me achieve a solid understanding of dysphagia and showed me the importance of providing patient centered care. In my early days in acute, I always enjoyed presenting at grand rounds, doing staff education, and outreach. I joined CSP in 2009 as an onsite endoscopist, then quickly began working alongside our owner teaching FEES Training Courses. I fell in love with it! It makes me so happy to watch our learners go from feeling nervous about passing the scope to successfully being able to offer FEES for their patients.

The education team consists of our amazing Administrative Assistant, Christina Murphy and a part-time Brand Manager, Lyndsay Parker, M.S., CCC-SLP.  We use an array of trusted instructors from inside and outside of the CSP umbrella . We ensure that our continuing education topics are delivered by subject matter experts. We love our instructors we support them by providing excellent pay, creative freedom, and fun platforms to show off their knowledge!

Our “Why”

We love what we do, and we are passionate about supporting SLPs to provide the absolute best dysphagia care. We feel strongly about representing CSPs Core Values in all aspects of our work: Integrity, Serving Well, Reliable Excellence, and Flexibility. As we strive to positively impact others, we love nothing more than partnering with you to do so. When registering for a course with CSP, our promise to you is that the experience will be informative, evidence-based, and engaging at a thoughtful, transparent price.

As always, please reach out with any questions! We hope to see you at an upcoming course soon!

Sincerely,

Selena Reece, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCS-S
